Happy October and welcome to the 40th issue of ‘How Curious!’ ✌️ I’ve fully embraced the remote working lifestyle and would now struggle to return to any job requiring me to be present in an office again. Where you live and what you work on hugely influences your whole life, so decoupling these dependencies and optimising for each is amazing. I spent all last month in Ireland. It was great to get so much time with family and friends. I’ve returned to Barcelona beach life this month. 🏖️☀️

Don’t take yourself so seriously. You’re just a monkey with a plan - Naval Ravikant The enemy of peace of mind is expectations drilled into you by society and other people. - Naval Ravikant Perspective is everything. To a worm, digging in the hard ground is more relaxing than going fishing.

Toucan - Learn a new language
Last month I shared a Chrome extension to learn French, hoping a Spanish version would be released soon. I have since found Toucan, a similar, but even better product! It covers Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.

Almanack of Naval Ravikant
This book collects and curates Naval’s wisdom from Twitter, Podcasts, and Essays over the past decade. Choosing what city to live in can almost completely determine the trajectory of your life, but we spend so little time trying to figure out what city to live in. Happiness to me is mainly not suffering, not desiring, not thinking too much about the future or the past, really embracing the present moment and the reality of what is, and the way it is. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Complete Live and Learn and Pass It On: People Ages 5 to 95 Share What They've Discovered about Life, Love, and Other Good Stuff
A simple book featuring important things life has taught people of all ages. Contributions from kindergarten kids, high school students, young married couples, and senior citizens made the author realise that wisdom knows no age and that truth is truth no matter where you find it. I’ve learned that any activity becomes creative when you try to do it better than you did it before. —AGE 48 I’ve learned that if you’re still talking about what you did yesterday, you haven’t done much today. —AGE 21 I’ve learned that you shouldn’t judge a person unless you have talked to him one-on-one. —AGE 11

Prisoners of Geography: Our World Explained in 12 Simple Maps: Tim Marshall
I loved ‘Prisoners of Geography’ and bought this kids version for my eight year old nephew. He loves it and it’s also a fantastic short read for adults too. In fact, I think I prefer it to the adults version! Have you read any educational kids books that you’d recommend for adults too?

Calendly: Tope Awotona | How I Built This with Guy Raz
After emigrating from Nigeria to the US to attend college, Tope Awotona worked as a door-to-door salesman and eventually set out to become a tech entrepreneur. He launched a series of e-commerce businesses that quickly fizzled when he realized he had no passion for them. But then he landed on an idea he was truly excited about: designing software that would minimize the hassle and headache of scheduling meetings. In 2013, he cashed in his 401k and went into debt to build Calendly, a scheduling service expected to make about $60 million this year.

I’d love to feature more cool work, so let me know if you have something you’d like to share!

Irish Mortgage Helper
My friends Eoin and Ruth took 6 months off work to travel the world. When the pandemic hit their plans quickly changed, and they found themselves in lockdown in Australia. They put their recent experience of buying a house in Ireland to good use and created tools to provide support and guidance to other first time buyers in Ireland! The two tools; My Mortgage Analysis and Property Scorecard remove some of the pain from the buying process.

How much money would you accept to give up the internet entirely, forever? I certainly wouldn’t do it for less than 4 million, and probably wouldn’t even accept that!
